Losing at PvP
- By Nighthawk

Pvp - Player Vs Player. Not everyone does it, but those that do absolutely hate to lose.

Well, tough shit. You're going to lose and unless you are the king of the hill, can take 3on1 with ease, bad ass of all time - you're probably going to die a lot. That's just the way it goes. Obviously, being better at PVP is going to give you higher chances of surviving encounters with another player (or multiple players), but even the best die.

If you challenge someone to a duel, try to be semi-intelligent. Quick story to show my point:

I had a guy last night challenge me to a duel saying, "You suck. I've never heard of you." Well, I have built a bit of a name for myself, but I can live with people not hearing about me. I've got to say that if you haven't heard of someone that's placed as high as I did in a 1-on-1 competition, then you're probably going to get whipped unexpectantly.

So the guy goes on to talk shit about how he's gonna whip my ass and yadda yadda yadda. I finally get him to actually go outside of town (Moonglow) instead of talking about it. Honestly, the specifics of the fight are unimportant, because frankly - it was over damn fast. The guy was a complete moron on many levels.

  1. He thought he was bad ass
  2. He talked a LOT of shit for no reason
  3. He had obviously recently been regs shopping. I got OVER 170 of every reg (up to 256 root).
  4. He thought he was invincible and that his regs/magic weapons/etc were safe
  5. He said I only won because I used a 3rd party program

This last one really pisses me off. I readily admit that I use UOA/UOE, merely because of three things that should be in the game anyhow - reg counter, simple arm/dis-arm of weapons, and last target. I've asked everyone and their brother if they use 3rd party programs and just about everyone (not all, but a huge majority) uses either UOA, UOE or UOP. It's not an excuse to use them, but it IS accepted practice in UO among players. If you're going to get into a duel, expect the guy to be using something, because he more than likely is.

So basically, if you can't handle getting beaten or your opponent(s) using a 3rd party application to do things the client should have been built with, then perhaps the Care Bears Playland or some other non-multiplayer game is better suited to you.
