Default WTFMan.com no longer sanctions the WTFGTA server

As you can probably deduce from the title, I have requested that WTFMan.com be disassociated with the GTA server. Please seek out the forums on that other site if you wish you post regarding that server as such posts are not appropriate here any longer.

Thank you. Have a great day.

Woohoo Finally! No more GTA fags trolling the boards! So why did you give them the boot?

I didn't like the fact that Violent Dave was using the WTFMan name to promote the server while directing all of the related traffic to his other site. I gave him a choice of whether to stay onboard with us, remove all references to his other site (and host all the server related stuff here) and keep using the name or leave, and he chose the latter.

Basically, if you say you're a WTFMan server, I expect there to be something like a gta.wtfman.com with a bunch of server related information and the like. Using our forums exclusively. Stuff like that. Using our name to feed his own site seemed shifty.

Hell, look at Dave's last post on the frontpage of WTFMan and then look at his own site (which I will not link)]. It's the exact same post. He wasn't doing anything exclusively here. We were just another place for him to copy/paste what he was saying on his own site and then re-direct people from here to there.

That's pretty fucked imho.

I'll just go ahead and say exactly how I feel now that Dave had decided to go out on his site and try to make me look like some kind of jack ass....

I agreed to host the WTFMAN GTA Server because it was just that... a WTFMAN.COM GTA Server... hosting the server really didn't cost me any extra money so I had no problem doing so.

When I decided to move my company to a colocation facility here in Ohio Dave and his team were notified that a move would be coming soon. Shortly thereafter the raid array the server was on became corrupted and we lost the data. Of course Dave... the stunning admin he is had no backups of his stuff.

After all of this I told him I'd get him up and running in our colo... I offered him the ability to ride on one of the Dell Poweredge 1950's we have (Dual Quad Core CPU's, 16 Gigs of RAM and nice big raid arrays with full backup systems) he tried it out and was un able to make some new bullshit software he wanted to add run in a 64 bit environment...

At this point we were left with two alternatives..

1. I purchase a new server for him to run the GTA box on and put it in the colocation facility.
2. He chooses to run the GTA server without this addon hack he thought was so cool.

In the end he told me he really wanted the addon so I did just that... I went out and purchased the following server for him:

So as you can see this was a pretty nice system. We have about 32 gigs of RAM sitting in the datacenter so when I took that server down and rackmounted it I went ahead and put in 4 gigs of RAM. That would make his overall server configuration:

Dell R200
Dual Core Xeon 3065
4 Gigs of RAM
Gigabit Ethernet to the internet
Unlimited Bandwidth
Dual 250 gig Drives

His recent post on his site talks about how his new server is twice as powerful as what I offered him and that's flat out bullshit. Dave asked me to put windows on the box so that he could administer it better because he doesn't know much about Linux. I went ahead and purchased another Windows Server 2008 License for him after much debate with the rest of my staff.

Dave and I had many discussions about remote access to the box and quite frankly I was not comfortable enough with his skillset as an administrator to give him full administrative access to the server. I told him I would work with him on getting it all setup.

The server was online last week and ready to go with a 32 bit Windows installation. After some conversations with NH I elected to not give Dave the login credentials because frankly if he's not going to make it a WTFMAN production then I don't want to be affiliated with it.

I'll go ahead and say it since Nighthawk wanted to be nice....

Dave turned out to be quite the asshole... He wasn't paying me any money and was more pushy than the paying customers I have. He's one of those guys where if everything is going OK then he's fine to deal with but when shit doesn't go his way he gets all pissy.

Bottom line... The WTFMAN GTA SERVER is waiting for an admin team that will be true to WTFMAN.com.... if that's you apply within... NH will need to sanction you but if you've got the skills to do it the server is waiting... for free.

The only rule is... the server must be a WTFMAN ONLY PRODUCTION.

Damn, sounds like he really took advantage of your hospitality. I'm glad all this came to light so he can't continue to mooch off of you. I never played on the GTA server, but damn Ryan props for all you have done. Hopefully there can be some use for the server you bought.

You know I really had no intention of this turning into forum drama. However it looks like thats out of my control at the moment. It became pretty clear in the WTFMen private forums that you guys wanted me to pack up WTFGTA and leave. I was attempting to talk the decision over with Nighthawk but in his last post there he told specifically to remove WTF affiliation from the GTA server. Directly following that post you said that you were yanking hosting for it.

The original machine you offered us was great. It was functional and could have ran the old build of the server. That add-on your speaking of is the MySQL connection. If we dropped that add on we'd be right back in the same boat we were before. 100,000 individual .ini files making it near impossible to back up.

So no, it couldn't have worked for us. If this was an issue of money then why didn't you take me up on the offer to flat out buy the hardware? Why didn't you tell me the money I was sending via paypal every month since December wasn't enough? Why is all this coming to light now when all you had to do was talk to me?

You're absolutely correct. I am a newbie network administrator. I'm not Mr. Linux. I don't know 2003 like the back of my hand. I asked for high level remote access because our production would be in limbo for weeks trying to tweak something on the hardware on many occasions. I wanted access to do it on my own so I wouldn't have to bother you.

I offered to send more money. I offered to repay you in trade by doing some web design work or application building for Divinity. I thanked you profusely every time I asked for something, practically groveled to get things done. All you had to do was say something to me man, thats it, but you never did. Now your angry at me for doing something you never gave me the chance to rectify.

"After some conversations with NH I elected to not give Dave the login credentials because frankly if he's not going to make it a WTFMAN production then I don't want to be affiliated with it."

I wish I was included on these conversations. I wish someone brought these discrepancies to me. Now not only do I have to pay the price but my users do. This is just going to turn into a pissing match so I'm not going to bother commenting on it further. It's just going to degrade into he said / she said nonsense. I'm sorry if you guys feel slighted, good luck with your various endeavors.

If there's a demand for a WTFMAN GTA server we'll still have a use for it

I'm sorry for mooching.

Also please note, the server went down in March and I was still sending payment. So yes, I was sending "mooch" for a server I didn't even have.

Oh boy... you forwarded the donations people gave for hosting... you didn't pay me shit.... you were told numerous times to not even bother but you kept sending it anyway...

On top of that your own guys told me you were making money off the GTA server so fuck off. You didnt even cover half the cost of that new server I had to buy for you.

Actually I believe you wanted the drama... I believe you intended on it which is why you're still here. The WTFMAN team is left with a server now and about the only thing to do with it is run a WTF:GTA server... so we're going to do just that. You made your choice on how you wanted to handle the situation and you drove wtfman.com users to your website with the single goal of making money off of them.

I told you to not even bother sending the money... I told you to just keep it. You were telling me all the bullshit you were going through in life and I frankly didnt want to be involved. The only reason I hosted the GTA Server was because it's a WTFMAN production... nothing else.

It's not about thanking me, its not about paying me and it's damn sure not about helping me with anything...

ITS ABOUT STEALING FROM WTFMAN.COM... get that through your head.

Slighted... you intentionally tried to steal users from WTFMAN and use their name to gain your website users, make money yada yada... driving users from here to your site is wrong. A WTFMAN GTA server should be housed here.
