WTFMan domain is for sale

Postby Nighthawk » Fri Feb 16, 2018 2:20 pm

Please see the note on the front page as we may not be around much longer.

It's been a pleasure.

I will host it...I own two digital marketing companies and host shit already so not really a big deal, just would need to figure out the transfer and all that and how big the site actually is etc. And/or how much are you trying to sell the domain for?

It's probably not a matter of the UO content as much as the domain name he could get some decent cash for. Someone should archive the contents, including the flash videos and subdomains and host it on a wtfman subreddit or something.

Makes sense, if he can get a big cash day, more power to NH. I just bought wtfmandeux.com so if we want to move everything over we can.

Just registering and posting to say hope this site sticks around to some extent in some fashion. I downloaded the flash videos from this site eons ago so they'll definitely stick around in my circle of goob friends at the very least. Thanks for everything

Can't believe this place is for sale!

I played on the WTFMAN GTA SA server when it was online ages ago! I was sitting around on my computer and just thought to check to see if SAMP is still alive, and while it is nothing like it was back in the day, there are still people that play it. Crazy. I would always search the WTFMAN server on youtube and watch videos, lol.

Crazy!

I don't know why I decided to come to this website tonight, but it felt right. I really hope you get a good price for the site - it would be a nice going away present. Seeing this come to an end has made me really emotional for some unknown reason. I suppose it's mostly nostalgia - UO and AC were such a huge part of my life (although I am not always sure for the positive). Thank you all for the great content and laughs you have given us over the years. Would you consider putting the videos up on YouTube if they're not already? I would be nice to revisit them from time to time.

I leave you all with this: http://www.oocities.org/icygamer/laboner.html

I dont check back nearly enough but this hurt me in some weird kind of way. Genuinely a HUGE part of my teen and young adult life was spent in one way shape or form around this website. From origin UO to the player runs hosted or supported by this site(HB, CB, Cygnus) I cut my gaming teeth alongside what was going on here. Everyone who had been lucky enough to be a part of this site in its hayday is luckier then words can describe. We experienced and shaped for better and mostly for worse what would define a genre of gaming. I'd wager to say the vast majority of us that still check this site enjoyed and fed off the Joy of Villiany spirit in how we played Ultima and carried that spirit into every multiplayer game there after.

Nighthawk, you are due an enormous amount of gratitude for keeping this site breathing for the last decade. I hope you get a nice reward for your efforts when you do sell the domain. While my time was short lived it was an honor for someone who followed this site for almost two decades to wear the JoV tag in warhammer online. As silly as it sounds it was something I wished I could do during the early years of UO and to get the chance was an honor.

Some people's glory days of youth were spent on a high school football field or something most would consider "normal" for a youth to celebrate. However when someone starts to talk about or asks what the biggest memory of my youth was, it's always UO and WTFman is always quick to enter my mind.

If I could make one request it would be that you, Ron, and the rest of the guys take some time over however long of a period it takes and write an oral history of your experience with wtfman and MMO gaming in general. Its legitimately a note in the history of what has become a world changing genre of entertainment and you all were a huge part of the foundation it has been built on.

Somehow, someway, we need to have this site archived and accessible in the future. This site is arguably the last bastion of what it was like when the genre of MMO was completely raw and new.

Sincerely and thankfully,
