I was writing this as a reply but i figured its off the original subject of the glen beck post to deserve its own thread.
The problem isn't capitalism its that the US is no longer capitalist. We are a mix of socialism and capitalism. As soon as we started dabbling in social programs like welfare social security and free medical aid it took the incentive to work hard away from millions of people. Thats the whole problem with communism wasnt it? That people didnt see why they should work any harder if the government was going to feed them anyhow.
I hate when i hear people say capitalism is failing. All over the world capitalist countries are converting to socialism and floundering. So the socialists say look look capitalism is failing! Well the fact of the matter is that socialism is dragging it down.
The failure is in democracy in my opinion. The problem is with a democracy politicians want to be re elected so that they can have control and do what they want. There is nothing evil about that its natural they think they know whats best. In order to get elected its very easy to bribe people for votes with social programs like welfare and other handouts. Now whenever someone threatens to take any of that away a huge block of the public votes against it.
I believe the percentage of people in this country that dont pay federal income tax is now 49%. The only solution i see is not allowing them to vote. unfortunately they are too large a voting block and that will never happen.
Whats the solution? I don't know that there is one. I wish our constitution had been written in a way to prevent the inevitable slide to socialism that all democracies (or a republic in our case) seem to slide into.
