Volunteer Sentinels ready to serve - Shawnee, OK - The Shawnee News-Star

is this America?
Im sure they will stare menacingly at the people driving past when they direct traffic.

Reminds me of Citizens on Patrol from Police Academy 4, except no Mrs. Feldman (hopefully).

They are unarmed and doing what amounts to community service. Im not sure how you godwin'd on this.

well sounds like community service glorified but I watched the sentinels assist in a apprehension the other day and they are armed regardless of what the paper said, they are carrying equipment similar to what Dog the bounty hunters crew is carrying.I will try to get some pics next time I see the red coats out in action.

I can only comment on what Ive read, but I trust your eye on the scene more than the article.

From what I can tell though, this isn't a coordinated national effort. It's just Shawnee, OK 's police volunteer program.

The only thing that comes close (with the word sentinel) are the Sentinels of Freedom, an organization for wounded servicemen. They do not seem to be a law enforcement/enabling organization though.
