Default Just played WOW for the first time (10 day free trial linked inside)

fellow wtfuckers! i figured i'd write some bullshit for all you to read when you dont have shit to do or are dicking around not doing YOUR JOB. :-p

i transferred my my unsubbed e.u. darkfall account to u.s. but the excitement i was expecting just wasnt there and well... its still unsubbed heh. well i stumbled across blizzards 10-day free trial, which, according to my brother has been around for a couple years now. the game released in 2004 and im only just playing it for the first time. signed up (no credit card required) and chose to download the game in full (not stream while playing) which was about 6.5gigs. so after getting that going and fumbling around with my settings and getting the ping fix which lowered my ping dramatically, i finally started playing.

i chose to be a warrior human just until i get the mechanics of the game and find out what is a good class and what isnt. it took me about 5 minutes to really feel comfortable with the controls so i'd say thats not bad for this type of game. the first thing i did was talk to the nearest npc and get a couple quests. after 5-10 minutes of getting lost exploring shit.. i started to focus and using the map. went and killed a few weak shits and got enough candles to give to captain pointless for 40 coppers. i was hoping this next thing wasnt going to happen: he tells me to kill more of x to get more of y... ok why not, im leveling up and getting new gear and attacks. cool so far right? well about 2 hours later the game is still kind of fun and i expect that it will be.. for the next week or two then I will eventually realize there is absolutely no point in any of it. from what my darkfall clan says the game has total item based pvp which is highly believable given the carebearish feel of the game so far. It reminds me of Diablo II where the whole point of the game is co-op and pvp is just some shit they tossed in there to try and appeal to the power gamer. ah oh well ill play the 10 days, if its still fun ill let ya'll know. doubt it though.

graphics:
b- clean and crisp but too cartoony and it had a mono-chrome palette.

interface:
b- easy to access but was very intimidating at first glance when there were 25+ buttons lying around, can get very technical later on with macroes.

creativity:
c- nothing new, a mix of diablo II, ultima, warcraft and everquest... just imagine those but completely item-based pvp. :/

gameplay:
b+ simple but it is annoying to organize items and theres limited storage early on but overall simple and familiar.

performance:
A- The game runs great on my computer, which is about 2 years old but even older systems would have no problem running it very smoothly on medium-low settings.

PERSONAL OPINION:
_C+_ Its fun for a while, but I doubt it will last past the novelty of the game being new to me. Its a copy cat MMORPG and I will come to this conclusion which is all too familiar: point and click, kill, watch numbers go up, collect really cool high damage shiny pixels, plateau off, wish there was some kind of end-game, realize there was no point cuz pvp is item-based nonskill... and then either quit or make a new character (very unlikely)... do it all again.

I actually enjoyed the game a lot more when I first started, but that was entirely due to our little five person lan-party I had with my friends for a week straight as well as the fact that everyone was starting out on the same level. Nowadays (and I haven't resubbed in 2 years) everyone has maxed out and so the land feels barren of players. I think the initial excitement was in the competition to explore and level with the added unknown element of how pvp actually would play out. When I hit lvl 60 back in the day I went on two MC runs and canceled my account. Raiding is mind-numbingly boring at best. Battlegrounds was entertaining for about a week but they lacked what previous versions of the warcraft franchise had offered: a variety of maps. Thinking about the game now leaves a stale taste in my mouth and I don't believe there is any update or patch they could add that would make me feel otherwise. It's high-time they started working on the next project.

I haven't heard any updates regarding the new MMO that blizzard is working on, but with any luck it will be a lot different from what WoW is now. They wouldn't want to compete with themselves afterall.
