So i launched the game today and saw the character creation screen which was as far as someone can go without being in the beta, and was greeted with a while male sitting on a dock with his shit dangling over the pier.

Can only mean that this game will be epic.

Thoughts?

Are they doing it the same way AoC did it? I dont see any information on instance pvp but i also cant imagine large quantities of people using the unreal3 engine in an mmo

oh believe me - i am just as skeptical about the success of this MMO as you are. What I am saying is that their empty lies and promises sound good and that by the time it makes retail with US servers up I will know not to buy it.

Its the same strategy I used that prevented me from wasting my money on DFO - although it did help that i played in the beta and knew not to buy it solely based on that lol

Face it.. there is no alternative to a free uo server. No mmo now or in the immediate future will ever capture even 1/32th of the magic of UO. I give up personally. I mean can you imagine what an mmo using Unreal Engine 3 and having more than 20 players in a zone will generate as far as graphics lag? I have a pretty sick rig and I still shutter at the idea. Darkfall is so generic its amazing there is nothing about the entire game that says thats pretty cool and original nothing nadda zilch. I digress in my depressed gamer state I went on a rant I apologize.

well anyways: i am playing Deus Ex, Call of Juarez bound in blood, fallout 3 expansions finished the pitt, broken steel, operation anchorage, now i am playing point lookout. (so far broken steel followed by point lookout are the best bang for teh buck), plants vs zombies ( and i even hate tower defense games ) and finally mirrors edge, crysis, and swat 4 ( i loved rainbow six rogue spear before rainbow six became so damn consoled, and this is like the spiritual successor)

Which I will get today

GTA IV, Mass Effect, Star Wars: TFU, Fable 2, Assassin's Creed - will be the games I play first for sure. Never had anything but a PS2 and a Wii so the Xbox 360 is going to be a step up for me console wise.

mass effect ftw 50 + hours of gaming single player bioware goodness and its the first of a trilogy!, assassins creed is awesome however it gets tedious and repetitive but its an awesome entry to a new ip, fable 2 is arguably a great game I personally enjoyed it more than part one, GTA 4 especially with its sandbox i had tons of great WTF just happened moments along with a good single player narrative but marred by spotty mp modes. The other games are filler/fluff and yes i am looking at the tech demo of SW:TFU. Once you get past the wtf physics parts and graphics whats left is a on-rails beat em up.

I given up on any serious gaming. I do occasionally organize Left 4 Dead session with 3 guys that live in my building. Its back to the good co-op gaming I grew up with on a weekend once a month for possibly an hour or two as I have found nothing interesting in MMO's in over a decade aside fron NavyField.

After several years, I have gotten bored of NavyField and I keep giving LotR a try but Its no use.

Games are insanely boring to me in my advanced youth stage of 30 years old. I have been lifting weights, learning videography more than gaming now. Games are only social activities for me now and rarely do they beat out a good DVD when I'm with company.

I stopped browsing MMO gaming sites as well like stratics and mpogd.

That I am delusional about DF is not a fair judegment tho the game surely has its flaws - I'm not arguing you on that. Since I don't play games all the time when I'm off work, I just haven't reached the point where DF has gotten boring - yet!

Several from my clan who are either students or unemployed have plowed thru the game skilling up hardcore and have now quit due to broken game mechanics or lack of stuff to do. I went down the same road with UO and quit because I wasn't very capable at PvP and I had gotten all I wanted out of my characters and the real estate market. Rares and vendor stuff never had my interest.

Going out with the clan to kill other people several times a week is currently enough for me to stay with DF. I can handle myself in most PvP situations so that helps a lot too.

All though it's not affecting my gameplay and thus a kind of a paradox I'm sick of all the hacking/duping going on in DF but I'm not quitting because of that just yet.

Major sieges (not talking about zerg sieges) seem to have come to a stop after the NA launch date was officially announced, which is sad. Launching a new server, even one in another region, was stupid as fuck imo seeing EU-1 isn't filled to capacity.

There're lots of things about DF that could be better but so far I'm still playing because I'm still enjoying myself in-game and with my clan , which is what's important to me in an MMO.
