Default Strategy Gaming???

Ya know I would really like to find a game that is based on war in some fashion and I don't care what era or style. But i want something that is about building a army and kicking ass... Just throw out some names of games that might not be mainstream but are great play.. k thanks...

Hearts of Iron

Victoria

Eurpoa Universialis

Codename Panzers

Supreme Ruler 2010-2020

Aside from Codename Panzers those games are also about running a country. I enjoy the economics of Supreme Ruler, the more realistic the better.

Sins of a Solar Empire
Galactic Civilizations 2 Twilight of the Arnor..

these are games in lieu of Master of Orion... brilliant strategy games.

I thought Stronghold 2 was fun, but I tend to suck at RTS's so I don't play them much anymore.

QFT. Both of these games are fucking fantastic, though Sins is a bit more on the RTS side of things.

thanks Joe I meant to make a point about one being the side of RTS and the other one being of a turn based game..
I consider both to be the pinnacle high end of their respected genres. I have personally sank over 100+ hours into Galactic Civilizations 2 and its respected expansions (please support Stardock published games they do not use any draconian DRM on any of their software, and are the creators of the PC Gamers Bill of Rights idea.. pirate if you cant possibly afford to purchase it.. but all their titles are 29.99 or less on their website (i think) so you can donate blood and buy em!) and along the lines of 70 hours into SoaSE.

And if you are feeling like a really great political sim pick up the game The Political Machine and see what it takes to become president its really interesting and fun... <-- also by stardock

I know you said not in the mainstream but maybe I'll mention one you havent thought of or forgotten about. Plus RTSs are kinda my "thang".

Anything with the name Total War in it - Rome is still my fav game of all time but Medieval II is great in it's own right.
Supreme Commander - Totally different play style and a must to play
Company of Heros - One of the best WWII games to date
Any Homeworld game
World in Conflict is a great game that was way underated
Rise of Nations is a great classic
Battle for Middle Earth I or II
Solar Empire is still sitting on my desk sealed, waiting to take my life over
Black and White is a classic
Darwinia is a cool little game and now I think Multiwinia is out
Act of War isnt bad
Nexus: Jupiter Incident
Sacrifice
Star Wars : Empire at War
Soilders : Heros of WWII - Hard as hell but a cool game

Hope that helps!
