Default Sweeney Todd

I was just surprised by this movie, classified as a dark comedic musical. My wife has kinda turned me on to musicals (I used to hate them) and now I enjoy certain ones, so I thought I'd try this out since it was directed by Tim Burton. I was in for way more than I bargained for, not knowing the full plot like many probably do, with the amount of blood and gore being on par with a slasher film. The level of evil from Mr. Todd and Mrs. Lovett's plan of murder and deception with the eventual goal of revenge was just amazing.

The main characters couldn't have been better cast with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter playing the sinister and demented lead characters that they are perfect for. Also one of my favorite actors, Alan Rickman, plays the "bad guy" and his croney was played well by Timothy Spall.

If you like musicals at all or if you wife likes musicals, suggest this one. You won't be disappointed, and chances are she'll have to turn away on a few scenes.

I agree regardless of having a woman in my life or not ( not ) I found it highly entertaining. Ever since I saw a mini production of the actual play in the movie jersey girl I was kinda intrigued as a 8 year old kid proceeded with the help of his daddy to slit a throat. This is one of the very very few musicals I have ever liked the only other one ( besides team america world polices: everybody has aids ) is Little shop of horrors remake with steve martin, rick moranis and co. And if you didnt like little shop of horrors you are a homosexual. But back to the movie I downloaded a screener in 2007 during oscar season and was reserved to watch it. But after hearing the first song saying the people are shit and the town is London I gave it a thorough viewing. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of gore and how each song was innovative in lyrics and in presentation ( johnny is a fairly good singer is there anything this man cant do? ) I give it a solid 4.2 out of 5
