Girlfriend bought me a ps3 slim. Is this really what gaming is now?
So I have an awesome girlfriend who just bought me the new PS3 slim, and man was I ever excited. That is until I found out about the horrible selection of games that exist for it.
It seems to me that every game has to be another 1st person shooter or made to have you be able to pick up the forks and knives off of the kitchen table in the house you have no business being in but could smash out the window and jump through after your wreckless joyride running over innocent civilians and blowing away dogs on street, because the more you are not able to follow the point of the actual game is supposed to translate into 'fun'... and if it isn't supposed to then why the fuck is it there.
Every 'PS3 top games' list should really be called 'PS3 games that suck least', because honestly, that is how I view the state of video games. You know what the first games I bought for my PS3 were? Final Fantasy Chronicles and Anthology, not even PS3 games. I think the only games I will consider purchasing for PS3 are Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, and the upcoming Final Fantasy 13, but even then I'm not really looking forward to any of them. If I've come to expect anything from current generation sequels it is that game developers now believe that each succeeding title in a series has to become ever increasingly more sophisticated and technical than the last. Here's a clue for those game companies, if your game wouldn't be fun with shitty Nintendo graphics, it still won't be fun when I can see the pimples on my face reflected in the gorgeous water you spent an entire half a year with a team of programmers to make.
What about yourselves? I don't believe it is my age is the reason why I can't enjoy video games because I desperately want to find one that I can just get zoned out on and skip class for. If there are any out there, please inform me.
On a side note, I've realized my old blockbuster card still works and that my contact information is so fucked up on it that they'd never be able to find out who it pertains to. Time to go rent some games and never return them, if only there were some worthwhile to do it for...

Yeah, but it's got a sweet blu-ray player and you can download many of those fun classics on the PSN. Quite a bargain at 300 buckerinos.

Meh, I got sucked in a few titles last 18 months, Neotokyo on the pc for pure fps tactical fun.. assassins creed and fallout 3, fallout 3 is epic win. Brutal Legend is an amazingly fun and funny game.. its gameplay is nothing special but the execution is awesome I recommend the demo at least. Batman was a great game you need to play on the hardest difficulty to have a smidgen of difficulty but its an awesome game moreso if you are a fan of the animated series. In the future I have a few wants not too many but none on the ps3. I am waiting to buy a 73 inch rear projection hdtv and I want it to come down a few more hundred dollars before investing. Then the ps3 and its bluray will be warranted. I always wanted to play MGS4 and LBP but I dont have a single friend that owns a ps3.
Oh and fuck modern warfare 2.. I hate call of halo games. You think just because the setting is different that you are playing anything less than a more linear halo clone? I know the first call of duty was before halo but still.. story aside the game plays like shit.

oh and while i am ranting.. fuck JRPG's too.. i used to have a fond softspot for the final fantasies (till part 8) 9 and 10 were ok.. 11 and 12 were utter dog shit. Especially playing Dragon Warrior, Breath of Fire, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, and the other great Japanese classic rpgs of yesteryear. But I dunno man, the games nowadays that I have tried like last remnant and blue dragon are so boring and tired.
I am hoping that Dragon Age Origins is the revival of the Baldurs gate type gameplay ushered forth in modern graphics and hopefully free of most of EA's casual taint.
end rant..

I got the Xbox Elite back in July for a bargain. It was used (8 months) and had 9 games come with it as well. Out of the 9 only 5 games were ones I'd actually go out and buy:
Assasin's Creed
Mass Effect
Fable 2
GTA IV
The Force Unleashed (was crap)
LEGO Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda came with the box as well and tho kid's games are actually enjoyable but nothing more. The final 2; Turok and Conan I traded for a kickass rebate on an entire Rockback instrument pack.
I totally agree with you on the available games btw. I'm not seeing anything new being released that I'm even remotely interested in and the same thing pretty much goes for the other consoles and PC. There's Mass Effect 2, Assasin's Creed 2, GTA IV expansions and other alrdy existing brand sequals but that's it imo.

"ps3 has no games"
I say it all the time to people I know and they call me a fan boy...
Heavy Rain is making me strongly consider a ps3... also Disgaea 3... also the lower price, but still probably will never end up owning one.
ok how is dragon age supposed to be like baldurs gate? I thought it was like Mass Effect but in D&D not sci-fi

GameSpot: We understand that Dragon Age: Origins is intended to be the spiritual successor to BioWare's best fantasy role-playing games, such as Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights. What was it about those games that you definitely wanted to capture in Dragon Age?
Dragon Age will attempt to offer an epic, story-driven experience that tops Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights in every way.
DT: Fans who loved the rich story, interesting characters, and tactical combat in the deep fantasy setting of Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights will love what we're doing in Dragon Age: Origins. We're capturing the same great spirit of story, exploration, tactical combat, and character progression that we delivered in those previous titles and bringing it to a dark, heroic fantasy setting. We've taken a lot of what we learned from creating Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights to make Dragon Age: Origins even better, so fans can expect a lot of what they enjoyed about those games, but with next-gen improvements.

Really tempted to bite on Demon's Soul(s)? myself. You can apparently invade other player's games and either attack/kill them or assist them.
It's supposedly very hard as well. I'll definitely be picking up AC 2 though.

I really liked Final Fantasy 10/12, I think the disappointment for most people is expecting traditional elements from the previous versions and finding them gone, which I don't blame them for. The removal of the traditional world map and then the battle system of 12 is a drastic change from all the rest. Although I do think the active battle system of the old Final Fantasy's was really tedious and needed to change, Final Fantasy 12's sudden change was kinda like ripping a really huge and difficult band-aid off of a really hairy arm; that is to say, it's really fucking painful and didn't come off completely right.
I would bet if Final Fantasy 10/12 were released with a different title they would of been praised and respected in there own right. Unfortunately, the name Final Fantasy put them into context with the rest of the series and they should of realized that even though every Final Fantasy is different story-wise, they do have some continuity through the way they are played. Just imagine if you bought the new NFL Madden game and it played like Nintendo's Tecmo Football; actually, that'd be pretty fucking sweet now that I think about it.
