Default Rats For My Wife

My wife used to have a rat and when she saw the pet ones that are kept at the school where I work she told me she missed her rat. As the fantastic husband I am I started building a cage right away

Here's how I started:

Last night around 3am I finally finished building cage and here's the final result:

The rats are in there but are hiding the the small wooden house. I guess they will come out eventually when they feel more comfortable in their new home

Pet rats are as common as pet mice, lemmings, hamsters w/e really. They're very social and curious animals.

You don't want to mix males with females unless you're prepared for a LOT of additional rats - fast. A female rat delivers after only 22 days and can get knocked up again after only 48 hours. They learned that mistake at the school and now have 23 rats and they've only had them for like 2 months.

I'll get pics as soon as they pop out more. Right now I only see them when they sneak out to their food and quickly run back into the house with it.

Nice handiwork. Do the shavings from the second story ever spill out? That barrier must cut back on it quite a bit, but it looks like it might still spill a little.

Speaking of rodents, here is a puzzle about mice...

A mature female mouse take 1 full month to give birth to a litter, which consist of 12 baby mice. the baby mice take 2 months to mature to breeding age.

If you take home one baby mouse, how many mice will you have in ten months?

p.s. Is that your workshop in the construction pics?

Thx man.

The shavings do spill out but it's minimal and if the rats start digging no barrier will be able to hold it back anyway as I won't put plexiglass up so I'm satisfied with the current setup.

And yeah - the background in the first pic is the workshop where I work
