Default Programming Java

I've always had the motivation to try and build my own game, so I've taken up the task of trying to learn how to program in Java. I was just wondering if anyone else had programmed in Java before, understand programming, or has any input on how I should learn doing it. So far I've learned the basic class structure, object orientation, the syntax, I just now need to learn how to 'actually' program. If anyone wants to join me and we can learn together, or someone can point me in the right direction that'd be great.

All I can say is learning to program is the most boring thing I ever tried to do. I used to make little text games with spaghetti code back in the days and had a blast but then when learning the serious stuff is about as fun as a ball in a cup.

I wouldn't mind writing for a game or world building. I am creative but programming.... you have to be a glutton for punishment.

I recommend you go ahead and just learn ruby on rails. Full web application building language.

Very simple and very powerfull.

If you're wanting to be a game programmer on something like 3D games for PC/consoles, you need to be learning C/C++. All modern game engines (I know of) are built in this.

Java (and pretty much everything else) is good for say card games, 2D games, web games, etc....what some people might call casual games.

Ya, casual is just what I'm wanting to do right now. It's just a hobby, not attaining to make a career out of it yet. So far my biggest achievement is drawing a large 5x5 grid that colours in the one that you're on, and you can move it around . The first building block of my masterpiece... muahaha.
