Hey sounds to me like its time to get the WTF coders together and start something. Unless of course Darkfall does it for us.

And for those of you that think that WoW set the standards for todays mmo's, I think for people like us it was UO.

I mean face it thats all we're bitching about is how WoW is not like UO, how you dont get that adrenaline rush any more liek you did in UO days.

Thats because UO is the first of it's kind and its very hard to get used to anyhting new once you re lived that experience.

its like riding your bike for the first time, thats all you can think about is riding your bike. But in a year or two just getting on that bike and riding it even when you have the newset model with all the gadgets it just isnt that exciting any more.

My fondest memory of UO was when i was running my little "thorn in your side" guild called The Dead Rabbits. We never had the numbers to compete with the larger guilds in full scale battles but I'll tell you what. When we were outnumbered 3 to 1 and 2/3 of their people died before we did, I always considered that true victory. I just miss the old PvP style to include cast times rather then bars, cross healing, everyone could do DPS and heal themselves. I remember some guy taking out myself and 4 other people at once. Thats real skill right there.

I don't blame Blizzard or any other successful game company for continuing to pump out expansions or games that they know people are going to keep paying to play. Sure...these games get boring after awhile doing the same old grind day after day. But admit it, you had a blast doing it until it got old.
I think that's the problem right there. The belief that a company's only purpose is to make money. I think people need to stop believing this bullshit and letting companies charge ridiculous prices for recycled garbage.

I've worked at both a large corporate company (RONA) and a small company (a custom woodworking shop), and it seems the bigger a company gets, the more they can fuck over their customers and give them less quality shit. I know their is a difference between the industries (retail vs. millworking) but the ideology is what I'm comparing. From the small company perspective, the idea is to give the customers the best quality product you can make, and charge them a fitting price. At no point did my boss ever tell me, "Jon, we got a lot of shit to make this week so just throw those posts together, glue up some treads and get the shit done." Why didn't he ever say it? Because if it wasn't good, it wasn't going out, and if it did the customer most likely wouldn't pay for it. Contrary to the big company, who was more intent on profit than quality, numerous times I was told , "Jon, you need to push that shitty hardwood, no ones buying it and it's taking up space for other shitty hardwood we can buy from China at a buck a sq.ft and sell for 5."

It just baffles me at why people seem to give big companies this leeway at ripping them off, when small companies are the ones giving away better quality at the same reasonable prices.

War certainly feels a lot like WOW because you can't just PL yourself up to your buddies level. Also all the WOW kiddies are joining WAR and dumbing down the gene pool.

DAOC is still the best group oriented PVP game on the market. If you rate it based on your experience 2v6 then I have to say you missed the really epic fun in 8v50 or 8v100 from inside a tower with a nice bomb group. Hell taking a tank group into a 30-40 man zerg and coming out alive was probably some of the best times I had. Too bad everyone quit.

I think UO was fine, but the PVP seemed really limited. For me it was best played as a looter. Entirely player generated content :-)

That is another thing missing from todays games. Hell, the money you could save by allowing the people to drive and content and politics would surely be substantial.

Trust me, I liked the idea of it all, one massive world with pvp and such... but I just couldn't stand the way it played and I felt so disconnected with the other people playing. If only there was a third person medieval style combat game that was designed like that world is.

Hit level 32 over 10 days ago, I've played an hour or two since even thought I extended my account in hopes that tier 4 would be more fun. Maybe it will be.. The only reason I got this far was because I felt obliged to play since I paid $50 in the first place. I feel like a tool now thinking it would be any different than WoW but I guess that's what I get for hoping.

And here I am.. Again hoping that Darkfall turns out well. I need a new fucking hobby.

I agree 100% with the front page post man. I'd rather play console games now than any MMO currently on the Market. TCoS looks good, FFA skilled based MMO... no loot sadly And Darkfall actually is starting to look less like vaporware, and more like a game with 10 year old graphics with a sandbox pvp full loot ruleset!

Keep prechin bud. I enjoy logging on ever few months for a quick does of nostalgic MMO memory. Current gamers just suck, and you nailed it on the head describing why.
