Default Top 10 Reasons to avoid Spore

I, personally, thought that Spore would be an awesome, creative, and ultimately challenging game full of scientific design and simcity type development. Apparently much of the highly touted game design mechanics are overly casual and ultimately disappointing. Here is for your viewing pleasure:Top 10 Reasons To Avoid SPORE after reading this and knowing what kind of gamer I am, I will be pirating it instead.

I actually wasted $50 on this. I got through to the space stage in the first day. It was a huge let down. Its basically SIM everything but really good at nothing. The first stage is a corny arcade game the second some kind of crap melee based FPS the third and 4th are the 2 Worst RTS games i have ever played. Then space. You go from an overly easy game to super tedious and boring space game. I played it for a few hours and thought it was terrible. I dont know what i was doing wrong but it seems your income switches to a per hour amount in space instead of 1 min. Its no fun waiting an hour for new cash and there is not a lot to do in the mean time. The missions are the same over and over again and the terraforming is boring. I briefly hoped it would be something like Star Control II oops my mistake.

If you look at the old videos. Its obvious they cut quite a few things, like the underwater levels were you are a fish then you sprout legs. And the combat variables so you can rip limbs off and drags corpses back to your nest so that your pack can feed on it.

They also took out the blood most likely so they can sell more copies too kids. Overall its very lackluster there should be twice as many options for creating your creature. And both the tribal and civilization modes are very short and easy. The Space mode is very tedious since you cant automate spice collection.

(I personally love spice as the most important product in space since it reminds me of dune.)

You also can only have one of your own ships, while your enemies can have limitless numbers to throw at you. And the best item you have is a one drop turret that costs quite a damn bit and is no guarantee that your enemies wont still destroy your space colonies.

Since this is EA most likely we'll see numerous expansion packs that add missing levels or improve them to were they should have been after all this time. But I doubt we will ever see any blood or brutality. Since they want to sell as many copies as possible.

I beat it my first time playing in 12 hours or less on hard difficulty.

Very Very shallow game.

Interesting the first time around, cool concept but overly casual and simple.

I can see it being a hit for the idiot masses for ages to come though with millions of expansion packs, etc.

On the other hand my five year old loves it and owns it as well.

Default My thoughts on spore

The cell stage was fun and short.

Creature was fun for half a hour then got way repetitive.

Tribal stage sucked. Your tribe starts with the best weapon/tool for gaining loads of food. The throwing spear allows you focus fire on 1 enemy thus quickly gaining the upper hand in any combat with other tribes. Yes, you can befriend other tribes. It's not hard even on hard.

Civ stage is somewhat hard if you try the war or religion methods of world domination. Economic victory is EASY! Design your cars for high speed/low hp/some trade value. Pause the game as soon as you can and build a few extra cars. If your cars are fast enough, you can nab 4 or 3 spice mines before your neighbors can. Build housing, bribe your neighbors so they don't attack you, and trade! Even if a war or religion civ dominates the world, you can still win with enough bribes.

Space stage... UGH.. grind, grind, GRIND! Oh yeah pirate attacks every 20 minutes or so. Your colonies CAN'T DEFEND THEMSELVES and WON'T REBUILD destroyed buildings. The FUCKING UBER TURRET is complete dogshit, it will only function if you are on planet. That's right! If you ignore a pirate raid because you thought the uber will take care of the pirates, you will come back later to destroyed buildings, missing city turrents, and missing spice. Also when you make alliances you get to defend your allies as well. Finally if you blunder into the space of a hostile race their ships can blast you while you are orbiting/warping/moving planet to planet, but you CAN'T FIGHT BACK IN SPACE! You must make planetfall to defend yourself. By then you are nearly dead.
