Default The one mmo I will play if Darkfall is fail

based solely on the idea alone as no details have been announced I have been a fan of these titles since playing them so here you go I am personally happy as it is at the helm of bioware so perhaps for some of you other nerd-minded people like myself I will spare the title so you have to click the link itself E3 2008: EA Confirms Development of ***** MMO

Interesting but I bet it shares alot of WoWs features, and is very noob/pc friendly. The only thing great about it would be the universe and storyline, which would be cut into pieces anyway to fit into the mmorpg market.

thats my point if it has awesome content and story I will forgive the wow similarities unless its a loot grind throughout... then well no.. there are a lot of things wow adopted from eq, refined and polished, and then made there own that work in any mmo along with the things that they invented themselves. However with that said, why do companies think by imitating a product that they can lure away the players of the product they imitate? It absolutely makes no sense to me.. why would anyone leave another game to play the same thing with another coat of paint? with that I will say that a Kotor mmo has me interested and I really enjoyed SWG in the very beginning that game was fucking hard and a massive sink to get to leet status.. but then sony sonyfied the game and ended up like UO started strong and smelt more like shit with every year passing..

( except with UO it took until EA bought origin to start smelling like shit ) if i was richard garriot I would try to repurchase my baby back after EA forgot to change its diaper.

do you still game epsilon?
what do you play if so?

You know I would really like to do something really productive and beneficial to someone with my free time now that I am unemployed, but as much as I would like to write a novel, cure cancer, or make pr0n I live in a very small viral christian town ( think texas only with LESS MINORITIES) with very few opportunities to do anything constructive. Plus I just love video games especially more so when games went online... Do you remember the first time you played doom against someone sitting far away through a serial connection or duke 3d? Maybe its because I have been raised and watched the evolution of gaming since nearly its conception. I was raised on Atari 2600, colecovision, and commodore 64 and have seen it growing up to the fussy teenager that doesnt know what it wants to be when it gets out of high school. And now I dont see that wow factor anymore.

am i completely jaded?

I just dont know what it is, I know its many factors but I guess after playing games like UO and planescape where can you go?

It really just shows you how a game like UO with its ingenius gift of online gaming can make one just pan and plead for a return of anything that resembles it.. or perhaps that was the problem we were spoiled with the " do anything in its set rules universe " that everything else is just lame.. We wrote the script of that universe... we became all stars when we managed to live to see a 100k bounty for our head on a bulletin and live, we had our own players become seers and provide us fan fiction and unique items.. we stacked tables to climb into players " chimneys " and steal their items, we lost our house key and we were subsequently fucked..

I want that world back god damn it. All the paradigms that helped form UO has since never been recreated because it was fucking hard to be successful in that game and now everyone just wants it handed to them.. If you are that type of player fuck you.. god I just cant stop ranting about games I just want one one tiny video game that can reclaim just 80% of old UO is it really just that much to ask?

so I hope that Bioware really doesnt WoW this game and provides something for epic Jedi vs. sith battles that include vehicles and force powers. That whole universe is oozing with underutilized dynamics to make one hell of a video game. The entire universe is so fully fleshed out and realized that the game cant lack story, and Bioware are masters of providing thought-provoking storylines and wonderful writing as can be seen from baldurs gate series to icewind dale to finally mass effect just to name a few of their titles. Now what really really really breaks my heart is how much influence EA is going to have on this entire process.. EA only cares about bottom line and will do nothing to make a profit so now that i think about it.......

ITS ALL MAKE OR BREAK FOR DARKFALL..

I gave up on games in like 2005.

I just hope one day something comes along that brings back fond memories of early UO/AC/DAoC hell even early EQ would suffice.

Maybe I'm just too old now.

no sir we just have good taste.

I remember having AOL 2.0 and playing neverwinter nights and thinking man where can it go now.. then uo.. then eq then wtf happened.

I rack my brains for why some people find things like loot grinds fun..

early UO didnt have that crap except when you really wanted a vanq to get money to buy gear from the brit smith to kill then you repeat when you die.

Like anything else the MMO went mainstream and died, it happens to all forms of media. Just like a genre of music that is great when people first start creating it but begins to suck and fit that "Hit Making" formula. I doubt we're gonna see another great MMO in the sense most of us look for... maybe ever. If Darkfall or some other indie MMO comes along and is willing to live off a few thousand people droppin 15 bucks a month that would be awesome. Fact is, even Darkfall will change when they realize they can add more ,000's to their bank accounts by making it more "soccer mom" friendly.

we can have hope sir.. but after reading all the things they are doing with this game being completely 100% no-holds-barred, balls-to-the-wall and other hyphenated phrases that I am forgetting, from land, sea, and air.. they would have to rework the entire engine.. seriously go look at their forums it stays packed with active posters wishing hoping and waiting. They dont have a huge capital investment from some big name publisher, they dont have anyone overlooking their shoulder telling them that this or that needs to be changed, and they dont have a huge team to bug squash and program like blizzard.. which is why I dont think they are greedy ( yet ).

This will be my last go at an mmo. AoC and warhammer hold no interest to me whatsoever.

Its funny though me and a buddy were talking about the current state of music and how its completely and utter fail.. There is very few unique sounds worth a damn and even less that have decent lyrics.. you are absolutely right.. 70's rock for the win.

Check my neverwinter nights thread if your looking for some of that again. The server I play on is pvp/rp orientated and its not easy to lvl. Also if you die you have to pay a heavy price. so you either know how to play and win or lose everytime.

Also your town sounds wonderful.
