Default Disappointing Friday Update but.. 2 good YouTube Video trailers to get you Happy

Bah shitty friday update:

July 18th, 2008
Briefly checking in with you on our progress:

We're working on two fronts, development and publishing.
Development is mainly focused around testing and fixing bugs. We're also optimizing client and servers. We're playtesting a lot, we've also logged many hours of large battles and we're very excited with what we're experiencing. While playtesting we're getting a lot of video footage that's going to end up in a video we'll be releasing next month so you'll get an idea of what we've been talking about.

As far as publishing activities go, we're working on the servers, customer and technical support, billing, and distribution solutions along with our partners.

We've been hiring people in all departments, and we have eight new team members.

Since it's summer and a lot of people are on vacation in Greece, we've been getting a lot of requests to visit the studio. We've already had a few people come over and we had to say no to a couple of others due to the bad timing of their visit. The people who have been here may or may not write about their visit, we didn't make them sign NDAs and we showed them the game.

We enjoy these visits, but unfortunately we can't spare the time unless it's media so we won't allow more visits for at least a couple of months. We've also had some media over here and there should be a couple of articles in the local press.

We've been putting in the long hours, so the next three weeks we're on a weekly vacation rotation, the last chance we'll get to rest for a long time.

The next update will likely be in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for reading.

ok here to make us think about what we love about the " idea " of darkfall:

Good Darkfall Trailer 1
The one trailer to rule them all, You may once again get goosebumps!

Default Darkfall update per RECYCLEBIN

Per User RECYCLEBIN:

Looks like the 1st of many people that went down to Greece to visit the DFO (Darkfall Online) headquarters has posted a write-up of their visit on the DFO forums.

The write-up can be found here Darkfall Write-up

The user also uploaded (3) pictures of his visit Adventurtine Studio Pics by Yellowbeard

The pictures really don't say much...but, hey, relative proof that the company exists is always positive news.

note:
i am keeping an active darkfall online thread just adding your info man...

Hah, I just noticed this thread.

Thanks for the ups

There's something about this forum and me totally neglecting to see already pre-existing topics.

Maybe it's the color scheme

That write-up was awesome and gave me some very uplifting confidence in it.. however that whole " America may have to wait " has my o-ring on pucker alert 10. I dont really care for all that and I would hate to move to Europe just to get a leg up on the rest of you. As long as it is by Oct / late Nov I can manage. Well hell who am I kidding I am going to play it if it ever comes..

Just for the love of all that is holy and good hurry the fuck up...

Default Euro Vs. America Darkfall Launch Plan

From Tasos Lead Developer of our favorite forever delayed love affair:

European vs. N. America Launch
The answer to the question on whether we're going to launch in N. America and Europe at the same time is: "Right now it doesn't look that way"

I’ve been frustrated by issues like these while waiting for a game myself, and I’ll try to explain this as well as I can:

1. First of all, this isn’t an issue of us being located in Europe. It just means that things are moving faster for Darkfall in Europe. A few months ago, it was the other way around and that’s how fluid things are at the moment.
2. It would be a publishing and a logistics issue that the European launch might precede a N. American launch. We have a publishing partner in Europe; we haven’t settled on one in N. America yet. Unfortunately as things stand right now, we can’t launch in both regions at the same exact time but, of course, we would like to.
3. While the actual status on this hasn’t changed much since our friends visited our offices, things are moving at a fast pace.
4. What we can say with relative certainty is that the first beta test will be on the European servers. This isn’t to say that N. American players will be excluded from it.
5. It also doesn’t necessarily mean that N. American players would be excluded from playing on a European server.
6. While we haven’t selected a publisher in N. America yet like we have in Europe, this doesn’t actually mean that we need one, or that we're going to wait for one, in order to launch the game there.
7. Our publishing effort has been for a common infrastructure and we’ve been adopting solutions with a global reach so that the setup in one region could be shared by- or quickly duplicated in the other. I don’t want to say that we could be up in N. America in no time, but that’s our intention.
8. It’s important to remember that our preferred scenario is to launch Darkfall in N. America and Europe at the same time. This is on our mind as we move forward. Even if we don’t manage this, it’s our intention to move very quickly to catch up.

My personal pet peeves:

1. No mention of digital distribution: Max profits sans packaging... why the hell not?
2. No american beta and strong talk of selling and distribution... No stress test? Funcom not enough proof? Which we still may have a beta but why the rush on publishers then?
3. The average ping from america to greece * per dslreports * is between 170-220 while tolerable isnt exactly an awesome ping to be sporting for first person style gaming.
4. I think i would go postal if the game was released and I still couldnt play it.

In all honesty, I have no problems with this.

Europe can suffer through any problematic outages, lag, asploding servers, whatever.

I mean hell. We've been impatient for how many years? At least 5? 6?

We can be impatient for a little while longer.

Hell. worst case scenario: It crashes and burns elsewhere and we watch from afar as the ship goes down in a great big magnesium fire of hate and angst.

Good points.. that way we can save our time for other things in case the pull an AoC. I dunno about you though but this is my obi wan kenobi, make or break.... What other Mmo has you interested? I have none other than this.. I refuse to play a game that has any resemblance to eq, wow, or its ilk. However that whole Asherons Call thing has me intrigued however that after I beat Baldurs gate 2. But anyway this is pretty strong talk however it is just that, talk. It is though things that are said that make this forumfall reader ever happy like when a child awakens on christmas morning but its always been this way since 2005 and I am tired of getting fucking coal man.

Pretty much no other, honestly. Sure I tried getting back into UO by way of Divinity.... but between having to start from scratch and seeing how PK's have it so easy... it just didn't appeal to me. Call me crazy, but I enjoyed knowing when a PK was after me, chances are I wouldn't get away. When I was on Div, I was able to literally run to town without recalling or hiding. The easy mode sort of ruined the fun, ya know? Plus even if it were the elite-red v. evryone else playstyle, I probably would've quit regardless mainly due to having played that game to death once already. Not to mention all of the RL commitments I have now that I didn't have then. So time is a factor.

Darkfall is probably the onyl MMOG, I can say with any and all honesty that I will play. Assuming it releases, of course. EVE will be my fallback. IF I feel like getting into it again. Otherwise I'm more or less done with the standard style of MMO play.

I think the last MMOG I played was City of Villians. Not because I liked the system, but because a friend and I were just enjoying the whole supervillian aspect. But I quit that about a few months in.
