Default Gears of War 2

Saw this and Call of Duty 5 on sale over the weekend, even though I'm already into Fable 2 and Fallout 3, I couldn't resist.

So far, I've only done single player campaign. Only level 1 act 4 I think. It seems a lot like the first one, which is mostly good, with a few tweaks to controls. Can't ask more for out of the graphics.

I've heard really good things about the Horde mode on multiplayer, hope to check it out soon.

Anyone else playing this?

CoD 5 is mainly to play with my brothers online. Never touched the single player in CoD4. It's almost exactly like 4, but back to the WWII setting. It's a solid game, but they didn't really take any risks, just remade pretty much the exact same game in a different war.

Edit: LOL at my sign...shows all Lego Batman, Indy, Star Wars and Cars. My son is like master of the Legos games.

I haven't gotten into the multiplayer yet... but I plan on it. Heard the Horde mode is fucking killer. Lot of rave reviews about it.

The single player campaign is great. It makes you feel like you're part of a larger battle and at some point... not the end-all-be-all squad that doesn't get into trouble without needing some help. You get plenty of it, at least thus far.

The weapons are tweaked a bit.

The Lancer is pretty much the same. But the locust gun is like a fucking hand cannon now, to make up for the lack of any real melee power. It also holds considerably less ammo than the lancer. But it doesn't have a saw... so you're fucked if someone rev's up their gun near you.

They added heat timers on all the mounted turrets. So you can't just hold the fucker down anymore. So if you're not careful with it... you can be standing there with a thumb up your ass until it cools down. The gun... not your thumb.

A few new weapons into the mix. A mortar gun which rains fire down from above. A chaingunesque weapon. A new hand gun that evades me at the moment... but it's pretty great.

They also made it so in a fight and you get taken down... you're not out right away. A teammate can revive you if they get to you in time. As for the enemy, you can either opt to kill them with a boot to the skull, or pick them up and use them as a meat shield. Only drawback to this is that you're limited to using whatever handgun you've got.

So far the only new enemy I've encountered, that wasn't in the original GoW, are the tickers. Tickers are little beetle things that run up and explode.

In one particular exchange I had a locust meat shield and a ticker ran up while I was doing a reload. Normally a bad thing... but the upside was my meat shield got turned into hamburger and it was pretty fucking great.

Overall they did a pretty awesome job so far with the campaign. Something I look forward playing with a buddy of mine in coop.

I'm enjoying it. It's familiar, so the learning curve is more or less limited to a few new weapons. Otherwise it's Gears of War Part 2.

Yea I'm loving it. I haven't gotten too far, but im running around in the hive. The scene where that chainsaw sword fucker cuts the tank in half and fights Tai and Dizzy is pretty good.

Ha! Just wait. Things get fucked up. In a very fun way.

Also, you'll notice as you go on that the chainsaw bayonet just becomes a rudimentary everyday tool, rather than a neat gadget on a gun.

This is also assuming that this particular mission is an every day event.

So far the best line I've heard has been..

"Control! This is Delta.. We just..... Aw shit. I don't even know where to begin. Just come pick us up."

heh. Yea I just got through that area. I liked when you first get the sniper rifle and he marcus counts off his kills... Thats five motherfuckers! Swearing like that in a video game is still novel to me, haha.

Do you play on LIVE Beer? We should play horde or something.

Yeah I play on occasion. Despite having this game for weeks now, I haven't gotten very far. Most of my game time is limited to the time between when I put my daughter down to when I can estimate her waking up next for her ritual feeding/changing/attempts to put her back to sleep.... then me catching a few hours of sleep before having to truck my sleep deprived ass to work.

I managed to finally get some horde mode in over the weekend with Budd and another friend of mine. Holy fuck that's some fun shit. Three of us got to level 8 I think on hardcore. Tried a few maps... but ended up doing the same map the training grounds use.

All I gotta say is that the game is way more fun to play on the 360 than the original GoW was on the PC. Even with the bonus content.

My tag is cqc76

close quarter combat 76? as in you like cqc and you were born in 76?

anyways its been sitting practically plastic rap with (literally -> ) left 4 dead, burnout paradise, and mirrors edge.. Until i destroy Fallout 3 I have decided to beat a game before continuing with the next. I have done all the side quests, got all the bobbleheads, the most powerful weapons, and now I am finishing on the main quest.. The game has already absorbed 143 hours of my life so I damn well going to see it through.. Its one of the funnest games for my tastes in years.. But I wish someone would just update fallout 2 then the world can cry a silent tear of win!

I have played gears 2 maybe 8 hours 2 on single player past the big tread tanks going down that pass and the other 6 trying out hoarde and that one mode where its 2 v 2 v 2 v 2 .. which is JUST FUCKING AWESOME.... but I must stay ever vigilant in my quest to beat a game before going to the next.
