Those three red lights!
This will be the second time I've sent my brick of an X-Box 360 to be repaired. It's simply ridiculous that this console would have so many blatant issues, and the fact that your warranty initially runs out before most problems will show themselves.
The first time I sent my X-Brick 360 in was due to a disc read error, where it just simply stopped reading any type of DVD I loaded in to the console. Just tonight, in the middle of playing Rock band 2, while I was grooving to "Say it Ain't So!” the console just crashed. I thought my damn TV blew by the sound it made. So, I re-booted the console, and low and behold the three rings of death.
I am trying to love this PC in disguise, but it simply amazes me that this freaking thing has so many damn problems, while I'm not even trying to use it to serf for porn.

Everyone I know with a 360 (off the top of my head it's probably 7-8 people) all have had to return theirs and get a new one, including myself. It's definitely ridiculous. Hopefully with their next gen system, they spend a lot more time in test/QA.
The newer models you buy today (different DVD Drive, smaller processor, better solder jobs) are a great deal less prone to the hardware issues, but, I don't think 100% immune.
I bought my Pro for $400 about a year after release. Now it's $300 with 3x the hard drive space, quiter DVD drive, HDMI, less prone to problems. fuck!! My only saving grace is I have one of only a handful of TVs on the market that actually accepts 1080p through component. So, at least it looks as good as it possibily can.
Assuming you have an older one, you might luck out and get a newer version, just won't get the hard drive upgrade (since you keep that).
The only good side is Microsoft handles it pretty easily and fairly quick. The newest PSP has major display issues and Sony's answer is "it's built to specification" and aren't doing shit about it. At least MS admitted fault and spent a ton of money replacing people's equipment.
Edit: When I bought mine it came with a free 2 yr extended warranty (continues after the MS one is over). I need to figure out exactly when it starts, but thought about returning mine and trying to get the new pro version out of them. Who knows, it might break on it's own and I might have to do this anyway =p

Add me to the list of people that have had to replace theirs. But, as said above, it was a relatively quick process.

I have not had any issues with either console I have. I have an Elite and my son has the Pro.
I think that most of the problems have been stemming from people having them in a confined area and they over heat. Mine are in completely open areas. My son plays the hell out of his as well and no issues.

The noise from the CD Drive is my only complaint.
But with the new dashboard coming in a couple weeks you can load your games on the HDD so that will cut out the noise factor.

Are there going to be keys you activate with your xbox live account to do that? Because if not how will it keep people from just pirating?

You still have to put in the original disc to start the game, then it just runs off the HDD once it validates you have an actual copy of the game.
Will speed up the loading factor of games.
Plus most pirated games can't be played on Xbox Live. Once they detect you are a pirate, they ban the console ID forever and it can never be on Live ever again.

The noise factor is a much bigger deal to me than reducing 15 second load times to 7-8 seconds. Although, with the 20g HD, not sure I can load more than 1, maybe 2 at a time since I also have saved games, arcade games, and usually a few demos on there.
I'm really wanting to see the quality of the Netflix movies through the Xbox.

The only bad thing about all this Video on demand is that with the recent caps set by most ISP's, it won't take long to reach that cap. Comcast set theirs at 250GB a month. Most of the other ISP's are half that or even lower. The typical movie over Netflix is about 4.5 GB. I run about 20 GB a month on my bandwidth with gaming and watching youtube, etc. I don't download any movies.
I have the 120GB Hard Drive. I only plan to load 2-3 games on there anyway. Basically RB, RB2 and GHWT. Anything to help the loading times and keep the damn CD drive quiet is good for me.
