Default Console gaming: ION Drum Set for RB/RB2

I am not sure how many other's have Rockband/Rockband 2. I have both and I wanted to giv emy review on the ION drum kit that just came out in September.

http://www.drumrocker.com is the website for the drum kits for those that have never seen them.

Took me about an hour to get them setup. Takes alot of tweaking to get the right height, placement, etc. The calibration in RB2 is also more of a pain in the ass. When I first started drumming on the new set I was missing notes lke crazy. I did the calibration by the automated feature. Even after I did that I was still missing notes. The way to get the calibration perfect is by using the Rock Band 2 Strat guitar. Take the strat and go into calibration mode. There is a completely automated calibration mode for this particular guitar. The game will sned a series of tones and then flashing the screen. The guitar controller has 2 built in sensors that sense the beeps from your sound system and the flashing on the screen. IMO, this is the perfect way to do your calibration. After I did this, I did not miss any more notes from calibration. Only from just being a dumbass and not hitting them at the right time

So onto the drums.....

I must say, this is the best $300 I have ever spent. There is such a huge difference between the original style drums and this ION set. The noise level from the pads is minimal. They are rubber pads and they hardly make any noise. The noise they do make does not overpower the music coming from the game like the standard set does.

My drumming has probably improved 10 fold. It used to aggrevate me that I would get so many misses on the old set. I consistently get 96-100% on Medium. I am really starting to come along on Hard as well. My problem is that I have trouble getting my leg to act independently from my right arm. But that should improve with practice. I have no musical experience other than playing Guitar Hero and Rockband.

The overall quality of this drumset is very well made. It is not made of pure plastic like the stock kits. The frame is metal as well as the bass pedal. Drum pads are well constructed and are very responsive.

Also a big plus about these drums is the fact you can buy a drum brain and convert these into an electronic drum kit.

I will take a pic sometime today and show everyone my setup. If anyone else is thinking about getting this set and need questions answered honestly...Hit me up and I can answer them. I was back and forth on getting them after reading some of the rockband forums because I had a hard time weeding out the bullshit posts.

I would rate these 9.0/10.0 They could use some very small improvements on the cymbals but other that that they are an excellent set.

I am getting the same thing once I move. I always wanted to play drums but this is even better because let's face it, playing a game is much more fun than practicing an instrument. And what's the point of learning an instrument? Self gratification, well I can get that from a game as well. Rock Band is one of the most innovative gaming ideas ever.

In my mind it would be more logical to pick up a crappy drum set for $300-$500 and make your own rock band.

The drums are loud so pity everyone else who has to put up with the noise of you practicing. RB is fun it's not "work" like practicing a real instrument.

Spend the extra $50 for sound condensers therefore reducing the noise to a minimal extent, and from what i've seen it's all pretty relatively the same work
