Default No adrenaline rush in AoC so far.

Am I the only one who gets tired of constant loot on creatures? I just noticed when a lvl 25 was chilling at the ressurection point killing newbies like myself (LvL 6) that I didn't even care. He killed me and I ressurected right back there to this time make him work for the kill if he tried again. I made him chase me and leave his gank spot. I mean it's low level and I lose absolutely nothing from what I can tell and I didn't feel any adrenaline.

In UO I had my heart pumping. Why is that?

I noticed in this game, all the essentials drop as loot. A newbie-type weapon, some newbie-type armor. A few sellables but the thing is, everything drops some type of loot. You don't even need reagents to cast spells anymore. mages are ranged melee essentially with pretty spell effects.

I preferrred the old way of maybe dropping a few coins which meant I had to goto a blacksmith, a reagent vendor, the bandage shop. Basically a bank run that set me back 5-20 minutes depending on my equipment requirements.

With that kind of setback I think the encounter is a bit more dramatic at that point. I just got repeatedly killed by someone 19 levels higher than me and I didn't care. Does the same adrenaline rush present itself with any hostile player encounter as it did in UO? If not, I think I will just go with PvE server which also means I will be bored very soon of AoC.

In a letter from the game director it lists as number 2 point: We will have an overhaul of the PvP system - adding consequence and a host of small things.

I have no idea what that means but I sure hope it means consequence for dying in PvP, and hopefully there would be some sort of loot component. That really is the main thing that AoC is missing, but there is supposed to be things to fight and war over at the end game so we may just have to get to 80 before we can enjoy their true design for a pvp system.

Edit: Ah, more detail was on the main page.

2. Overhauling the PvP System

People like our open PvP system. There are many plans on how to give this open free PvP even more meaning and Purpose. In the meantime we will be doing some smaller tweaks, and we plan to get these out sometimes in June. I will not go into 100% detail here, but that will come next week! What I can promise is:

An update on how sneaking and perception works in PvP (nothing major, but an adjustment).
A change in the amount of information you get when you hover over an other player.
An added system of consequence to “ganking”. (Killing much-much lower level players).
A system of adding consequence to losing a PvP match, and winning a PvP match + turning on PvP Leveling.
A change in how Crowd Control (Root, Knockback etc) works in PvP.
PvP gear.

good to know. I might give Age of Conan another week. The graphics are holding me over for now. I really do hope the world is more open. I like in AC how the world was more accessible. Here, atleast in the newbie areas, you can trek only on the pathways where the land hieght and trees prevent open access to the land. i dunno, I really like to explore and here it sucks. There are zones. In AC you can just run and run and run open plains and find weird places by wondering around. Here the land is designed to be accessed as you progress in levels and that sucks. Atleast, that is how I perceived it in my newbie levels.

The zones are still somewhat designed that way, you can wonder around more but they are still separated by zones. The terrain is restrictive in some areas but there is some room to run around. As a ranged it can be fun to find a high spot where it isn't easy to run up and prey on the people below.

They've made reference to murder counts, a jail system (which is like questing), incentives to leave the zone, and a host of other changes. What we'll actually see remains to be seen, but with the realistic theme this game is going for, I really wouldn't doubt much. Most everything is public in this game outside of the noob levels.

No new MMO will ever be like UO and you will never feel that adrenaline rush again - especially when it comes to the PvP part. Hoping for this with every new game that comes out will only ruin it more for you as you will always be disappointed and quit playing shortly after starting.

It may sound harsh but people who are still stuck in old school PvP land are like those losers who never get over their ex. It's over, you'll never find something similar so get over it. On the bright side you will definitely find something just as good or even better but something JUST LIKE IT just won't happen. Adding to that I just want to say that I do encourage private UO servers like Divinity as they are great and lots of fun even though pre-uo:r UO will never truely come back.

I was a little bummed at first because I was getting hyped up thinking it would be so much like Asheron's Call. As soon as I received that first tell that had "fuck you loser" in it after killing somebody it all became worth it. It's a new game and they are patching so often and have pretty solid sounding plans for PvP so I just hope that with some of those changes there will be at least some sort of rush. Plus, we all got to get to 80 and in groups to experience the true intention of the PvP dynamic in this game.

Heh, I just canceled my account...

Basically I'm bored to fuck with the melee system of the game and really the only damn thing I care about is melee types. Melee = getting killed by rangers, casters, and anyone else who sneezes your way because armor <> surviving and blocking is broken to the point of being a "why bother" move. Lets not forget the mash five buttons to actually do damage combo!

There's no real pvp here anyway... It's just whoever gets the first shot provided the class initiating has even moderate dps. I might come back in a year when gear actually effects your character somehow, but for now I'm already bored with this. This game doesn't even feel half done to me and my expectations are generally very low. I just want my skill at fighting to matter and not be hobbled by such a mentally retarded game design issue.

I started falling asleep playing the game. I guess that says more than any words can express. :P

G/L to anyone that keeps playing though..

Actually.. I remember why the melee combat system sucks to me.... ITS DDR FOR MMORPGS... FFS

I have to say the last few nights this game has been giving me a rush. No where near the UO shakes but I find myself getting some emotion out of it.

Where can a guy find a cool ass machine that takes you back in time to a period when gaming was fresh and raw. I want to go back to the days of actual skill based pvp with the fear of losing something whether it be items or time getting geared up and taking a few pot shots at my ability to suck. Thus making me get off my red ass and stand up and fight toe to toe with anyone hoping to achieve King Kong status. The last few games I've tried have been so pve friendly and pvp retarded that I couldnt last but a few months before the grind got to me. It's hard knowing for a fact that we can't repeat our past as JoV or gamers at all. Sucks for some of you who never got to experience the UO/AC days in Jov. Legendary stuff happened, nuff said....

Valid... JoV-4-life........
